Being a teacher is a life-long commitment, a particular mindset (the one of an educator) and an everyday struggle to be better than you were yesterday. Being a teacher is a way of life, not just a job.
As a teacher, I tend to encourage students to set objectives for themselves. The first objective that leads me is that we all are life-long learners. I try to learn at least one thing from my students, colleagues, books etc. during the day so that I can peacefully sleep during the night. I believe that our role as teachers is not solely to teach the course contents, but more importantly to teach life lessons that will stay in our students’ memories and will remind them of us. I always try to teach through my own example since students learn more from the things we do, rather than the things we say.
Now a bit about me: I'm a teacher of English in Morocco and I have been teaching for 8 years since I got my BA in linguistics and had a one-year preservice training and my seconday School Teaching Certificate. I also had the chance to attend different regional and national conferencess held by the British Council and other national teacher associations. I also took part in international webinars by certified teachers and education experts. Recently, I have got the International Certificate of Teaching Mastery from the Washington-based organization "Teachers Without Borders".
Throughout my career, I have learned that getting students to develop communicative, methodological and strategic skills in English should always be a goal at the end of every single class. This goal certainly requires the application of a suitable method that meets the needs of students.
Yet, I am convinced that the success of the method adopted will depend a lot on my skills, my motivation and my ability to facilitate learning by creating a suitable atmosphere that could not only motivate and interest the learner but also encourage them to take risks and take responsibility for their own learning. In addition, my background in education helped me understand the psychology of students and therefore pass on the information in a completely natural way. In addition, my ability to maintain a good relationship with the learner remains indispensable. I am able to manage my classroom and at the same time give a good example for students. Besides, my sense of humor is an essential tool that paves the way for a natural learning.
I have created this website because I believe in the power of sharing and that nobody gets delight from something unshared. It is also going to be a platform from which I will learn new things from expert teachers and colleagues who should contribute to the website with their comments and feedback. Learning should never stop as Georges Isles once said, “ Whoever ceases to be a student has never been a student”.
